Cars: The Bain of my existence!!!

Ok, Ok I know we all have car problems, and they all get us a little down sometimes... but give me a break! My rear brakes had worn down past the squeaker (it broke off without making a squeak) and needed to be replaced. My wonderful husband took the task of changing them in stride. I, idiot that I am, thought no problem, they will be fixed by dinner time.

Nope, sorry, you lose, wrong answer. He worked on them for over four hours Sunday night to no avail. The caliper/piston would not return to it's normal state of being on the brakes. Something was obviously wrong with the caliper and we didn't realize. With much effort, a few scratches, and a few choice words the caliper was put back on. Ok, a strong C-clamp helped also.

We then took my car the next day to the fair, which is only about 5 miles away from my house. On the trip home we smell the breaks burning, but assume they are new and should therefore smoke a little at first.

Nope, wrong again. By the time we got home and stopped the car, the cover over the rotor was red it had gotten so hot. Fear of fire and my car blowing up stopped me from driving it to work on Tuesday.

Ok, so now we realize the caliper IS the problem and we go to Auto Zone to order another one. Too bad the part won't come in until 3pm today. So, my wonderful, of course, husband will be getting off work early today to get my part and (HOPEFULLY, PRAYING REALLY HARD) get it fixed to day.

Now, I really wonder where my little magic mechanic is. Oh, you don't know about my magic mechanic? He is the little man I dream about! He is about 2 feet tall and he comes to my rescue whenever I have car trouble.

Yes, he is imaginary, but wouldn't it be nice if there was a little robot man stuffed in the trunk for whenever those car problems arise. I can dream, can't I?

Oh well! Maybe one of these days I will have a car that actually works. I can dream about that too!
